OK, here's another "remember back in the mists of time" for you guys. Does anybody remember the band Lyin' Rampant from around the late 80s/early 90s. I was wondering if anyone knew whatever happened to them. Seem to think one of the guys used to go to Madisons and the Rocking Horse quite a lot - guitarist by the name of Andy I think?

lyin' rampant had a guy I knew as wee George (fluffy blonde hair) from Glasgow, I think. Haven't seen him for many years. Didn't he go out with Chris's sister ? Also, not sure but was Russell (dark hair) whose flat was blown up in Guthrie St, the drummer ? I know he is now an LRT bus driver and has his head shaved. My pal Collette (who used to run a rock record shop in Glasgow) might know more- I will try to ask her. Can't remember much about the others in that band- sorry.

Eddie Trainer (guitarist who also played in latter day Heavy Pettin') drinks in Solid Rock in Glasgow. Now in a band called 'God's Twin'. In fact there's a photo of Lyin' Rampant circa 1988 on display behind the bar in Solid. It's a beaut ;D Paul Mann (or should that be Paul Stephens?) played keyboards, also late of Last Orders! Haven't seen him for aeons! Jeez, Amy, you're certainly gettin' my old brain cells working overtime here! I'm just beginning to remember what the album sleeve looked like.....oooo errrr

Wee George (fluffy blonde hair) was just married two weeks ago to a lovely lass in Ireland but stays in Edinburgh (he did come from Edinburgh thou! just stayed in Glasgow a lot) not got the hair now, like the rest of us (we should have been sponsored by harmony hairspray!), I was in the band in the last two's years before the mad manager chucked George and Stevie (wabby the drummer) in a skip in Glasgow one night heheh! but the singer Stewart has turned out a bit strange! Locks himself away to the world I believe, he was a nice guy too.

Ha! I remember a Lyin' Rampant gig about 85/86 at Annabels (Fat Sam's) in Semple Street. At the end the drummer chucked his sticks to the audience and they just lay there on the floor. The singer ran out, picked them up, threw them back to the drummer and said something like..."you'll need these, we're no finished yet" Excellent stuff.....those were the days ;D

ok. nice to hear about George. if you keep in touch with him, wish him the best from me. any news of Paul Mann ? I remember him well as his dad was my hairdresser, in the days when I had the fairground gonk look (ie, 3ft in every direction) jet black and blonde. crimped and crunchy. yeah, I guess hair metal contributed to the detriment of the ozone layer. Russell was in Trixx, I discovered. easy mistake to make- the guys were all hair, tight jeans and t-shirts slashed to the waist. and much worse, sports/blazer type jackets rolled up at the sleeves miami-vice style, uh-huh.

Charlay's Aunt (or however you spell it) was the name of the hairdressers - remember him having something wrong with his eyesight - did he cut your hair well?!

LOL !! this is a first for me - discussing hairdressers, and my ! you must have SOME memory. don't remember the name at all but . re- the haircut - who knows it is a wonder I didn't go bald with all the maltreatment I gave my hair. Don't suppose it is any worse than what people do today with straightening irons and stuff. wonder if anyone will go for the nikki sixx look when Motley Play?

Yeah, Sweeney you're right, Charlay's Aunt was the hairdressers, it was across the road from the old ABC Cinema in Lothian Road. Rocky was the Last Orders you mention the band that used to play the Preservation Hall all the time - think half of them went to Boroughmuir? I've got a copy of Lyin' Rampant's Up and Cumin' would you believe and if I can figure out a way to get it on here I will...the cover was a bit Spinal Tap Smell The Glove, dontcha think!

::)mmm.....nooooo...the hairdressers (2 of) that Paul Manns' parents had were in stockbridge and bruntsfield. sorry, not lothian rd, Amy. I can't remember what Lyin' Rampant sounded like, so it would be interesting to hear a snippet. and Jake, I hope George remembers me. In those distant days everyone knew Heavy Pettin and the Glasgow/Edinburgh crowd were all sociable- partywise.
Last Orders (was Neil, Piglet, Ross Nisbet, Dave MacKay ? amongst others in this band ?) played the likes of Clowns on the High St.

Charlays Aunt was Paul Mann's parents' shop and it was just off Lothian Road in Bread Street (think that is the right name).

ok. I went to their salons 85-87, the place you mention is probably after then. Enough of hairdressing talk ! To the point- does anybody out there know what became of the players of the bands mentioned? Also - La Paz/Midnight Blue (I am aware of Dougie White joining big name bands) , Indian Summer, Avail and the other stars of the Preservation Hall ?

Take it from me.... Paul Mann (known as Paul Stephens) was in Lyin' Rampant in 87/88. He was a sort of 'additional' member on keyboards. His credit is also on the album sleeve! I remember them at the venue in 87/88. Charlays Aunt, the hairdressers was on Bread Steet prior to '87 and was there until the early 90's. My mate used to work for the Mann's. She cut my hair once too, bloody mess, I looked like Wurzel Gummidge.
